What is inside
Glow by Shekar Rangarajan explores the mind-traps that can cause individuals to feel victimised by circumstances, constrained by self-doubt, or disconnected from their own potential. The book examines how changing the way we think can help us respond to challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and personal responsibility.
At the heart of the book are ten common mind-traps that block effective thinking. Through practical insights and real-world cases drawn from the experiences of Indian executives, Shekar shows how individuals can recognise these patterns and begin to move beyond them.
The book focuses on transforming limitations into possibilities. It explores how weaknesses can be converted into strengths, experience into expertise, and crises into opportunities. It also introduces counterintuitive thinking as a way to challenge conventions, reconsider assumptions, and approach familiar problems from a different perspective.
Rather than offering abstract ideas alone, Glow presents a step-by-step approach to personal and professional transformation. It encourages readers to understand their distinctive strengths, express their individuality, and develop a more confident and authentic presence.
The broader goal is to help readers turn everyday experiences and short-term wins into lasting advantages, while building the mindset needed to navigate uncertainty and lead with greater gravitas.
Glow is written for professionals, managers, executives, entrepreneurs, and emerging leaders who want to strengthen their thinking and overcome limiting patterns.
It is particularly relevant to individuals seeking greater self-awareness, stronger leadership presence, better decision-making, and a more purposeful way of turning challenges into opportunities for growth.

Caselet 1: Alfa Tunes into the Winds of Change
Alfred Machado, Alfa to his friends, hailed from Porvorim, Goa. He could not pursue M. Tech due to financial constraints. He joined Zeus Software Private Limited with a B. Tech degree in Electronics & Telecommunication. He rose from being a trainee in 2012 to becoming a Project Manager today.
However, he felt inferior to the M. Techs and MBAs working in his company. He wondered why the industry rated hands-on expertise lower than academic qualifications. Alfa felt uneasy working with well-qualified but less competent professionals.
On the other hand, he enjoyed working with two Japanese nationals from Hitachi, based in India. He admired their ability to anticipate problems ahead of time. They even closed the project early. Alfa was credited with the early closure. Since most of the projects at Zeus suffered from late starts and delayed closures, Alfa felt he had arrived in life.
Alfa expected appreciation for his technical breakthrough. However, his seniors considered the savings from the early closure of a fixed bid project more noteworthy. Alfa felt undermined whenever technical brilliance merited less significance than the financial gains.
Surprise
Herr Thomas (Tom) Lange was the Chief Technology Officer of OMEGA, AG. They specialized in reinsurance and operated out of the Twin Towers in Frankfurt. Omega invited global IT suppliers to bid for a technical project. Zeus was one of the bidders.
Alfa took time off from the Hitachi project to propose the technical bid. He came up with clever solutions that offered superior functionality. He played a prominent role in sorting out several knotty technical issues. Tom preferred a value-engineered solution that maximized the returns on investment (ROI). He wanted Zeus to offer a cost-effective technical solution. Knowing Alfa to be a technocrat, Tom insisted on strict adherence to quality, cost, delivery, and viability. If they did so, Zeus could displace entrenched competition from the big five global IT suppliers.
Premonition
Alfa preferred resolving technical challenges and avoided commercial ones as he was diffident about asking for help. Thus, poor commercial acumen emerged as his blind spot.
Late Reception
360-degree peer-level feedback confirmed his shortcomings. Indifferent to feedback, he argued endlessly. His late receptivity and slow responsiveness were costing him. He rushed about at the last minute. Unfamiliar questions left Alfa confused.
