What is inside
Go Beyond Bounds explores the realities of entrepreneurship through stories, experiences, and lessons from people who have faced failure, uncertainty, difficult decisions, and the pressures of building something of their own. The book looks beyond the idea of entrepreneurship as a straight path to success and focuses instead on perseverance, continuous learning, support systems, and the willingness to keep evolving.
Drawing from entrepreneurial journeys, including Shashidhar Jakkali’s own transition from a successful corporate career to building businesses, the book examines the challenges that arise when individuals leave familiar environments and choose an uncertain path. It highlights how setbacks, financial pressures, changing circumstances, and moments of doubt can become important stages in personal and professional development.
A recurring theme throughout the book is the importance of taking action. Readers are encouraged to recognize opportunities within challenges, seek and use available support, learn from failures, and continue developing the resilience required to move forward. The emphasis is not simply on adapting to change, but on evolving consistently as an entrepreneur.
Through real experiences and practical perspectives, the book offers lessons on entrepreneurship, perseverance, leadership, ambition, decision-making, growth, and overcoming limitations.
This book is for aspiring entrepreneurs, startup founders, business owners, professionals considering entrepreneurship, and individuals interested in building businesses with a broader vision. It is particularly relevant to readers who are navigating uncertainty, facing setbacks, considering a major career transition, or looking for practical perspective from entrepreneurial journeys that demonstrate the value of perseverance, learning, support, and decisive action
Excerpt
From “Realizing a Dream of Global Entrepreneurship — Shashidhar Jakkali”
Unless you are born into a family-owned business, the transition from being just an employee working for an organization to becoming an entrepreneur aiming to build a global business is an extremely challenging task. Then the entrepreneurial journey itself is a long-drawn-out battle with no guarantee of winning. A battle within oneself, and with others. You may have the capital, skill-sets, a great team, even a good product idea, but unless Providence decides to stand by you, you do not stand much of a chance. Tangible requirements and good fortune are the two pillars for entrepreneurial success. Therefore, if there is one quality that goes into making an entrepreneur, it is Perseverance. One has to patiently wait until things start working in your favor.
To launch myself as an entrepreneur was not an easy decision. And once I made the decision, it was a precipice fall of sorts from a very comfortable life in Dubai to an anxiety-ridden life in Bangalore. At that time, I was the regional head of Middle East region for a well-established healthcare IT company, within a HighTech, free-zone called Dubai Internet City.
My family and I had settled down very comfortably into a lifestyle that had a little disturbance. Although I always desired to be an entrepreneur, certain complacency had set in and I was reluctant to change my lifestyle. Then an incident occurred. Few years into the job, I had a major difference of opinion with the management, which acted as a trigger for me to take one of the most difficult career decisions. I put in my papers. The management panicked for I was their earliest and best-performing employee. They offered prestigious job profiles and locations that I could head. Well, my mind was clear about what I wanted to do. I moved on and landed in Bangalore on a warm April morning of 2008.
Entrepreneurial Journey - Phase 1
The coward dies a thousand times before his death; But the valiant tastes death but once.
William Shakespeare
Upon my return to Bangalore, I launched a healthcare software product company in the field of data analytics, a specialized domain which was emerging globally as the next big technology revolution and soon it was named, ‘Big-Data’. I was highly ambitious and wanted to establish a globally respected innovative software product company and my vision document was a killer of a kind all the way from building a cross-continental, multi-culture team up to the ambitious NASDAQ listing. The initial phase was very difficult. I was steeped in financial problems and I went through the entire cycle of wondering if I had done the right thing, or whether the timing was right, of feeling guilty of putting my family through all sorts of stress and so on. However, there is never a right moment. I have read somewhere, ‘Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Take the moment and make it perfect.’ An opportunity lost is more expensive when compared to a temporary phase of instability.
