What is inside
The journey to parenthood is not always straightforward. For many couples, difficulties in conceiving bring unanswered questions, emotional uncertainty, and the challenge of understanding complex medical information.
In Science of Baby Making, Dr. Manjunath C. Swamy draws on his extensive experience as a fertility consultant to explain the science of conception and the challenges associated with infertility.
The book explores the factors that can affect fertility, helping readers develop a clearer understanding of reproductive health and the medical approaches available to those experiencing difficulties conceiving.
It addresses important topics such as male infertility, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). Through medical insights and real-life experiences, Dr. Manjunath introduces readers to the complexities of fertility treatment and the decisions that may arise along the way.
Beyond medical information, the book acknowledges the emotional dimensions of infertility. It recognises that fertility challenges can affect individuals and couples in different ways, making understanding, communication, and compassionate care essential parts of the journey.
Rather than presenting a guaranteed path to conception, Science of Baby Making aims to equip readers with knowledge that can help them understand their circumstances, ask relevant questions, and engage more confidently with qualified fertility specialists.

From “Preface”
Getting pregnant is one of the most wonderful experiences in a woman’s life. Mother Nature has put all her intelligence, science, emotions, and joy into creating that beautiful creature. Every woman on this Earth wishes to experience motherhood peacefully. She wants to give her 100% in caring for and nurturing her baby even before she conceives her. It is imperative that even before conception, she prepares herself in all aspects - emotionally, physically, mentally and financially.
The human species wants or tries to preserve good genes and carry good genes to the future for the progression of its species. The male partner has a greater role in supporting this divine act. He can contribute to a large extent in preparing his wife. Men assume that they need not come into the picture of parenting till the baby is 5-6 years old. I suggest that they prepare themselves along with their female partner. It may be like preparing themselves physically, financially, emotionally and mentally. I strongly suggest that couples consider it their biggest responsibility to give a healthy child to this world. Who knows this healthy child, sound in mind and body, gets to play an important role in the world?
Giving birth to a child just because everyone else is also having kids should not be the criterion. The child should have a healthy future so that it can create a healthy society, contribute to it and doesn’t become a burden on it (Chapter on ‘How to Prepare Yourself before Getting Pregnant’). Why we should have kids is a big question for a few individuals. I am not right in saying that "everyone must have kids to fulfil their family/societal dream.
