What is inside
Set the Ball Rolling brings together the real-life journeys, experiences, and insights of accomplished entrepreneurs and professionals who have built businesses, careers, and lives through perseverance, learning, and purposeful action. Through the stories of Dr. Sunil Kumar, Rohit Bagaria, Rajesh Dembla, Thumbay Moideen, Vivek Agarwal, Parmeet Singh Sood, Dr. Monika Singh, Sadananda Murthy, Avinash Sisode, Bhakti Sanghavi, and Ashok Soota, the book explores different paths to growth and success. Their experiences cover themes including entrepreneurship, leadership, resilience, teamwork, change, faith, imagination, business growth, personal transformation, and the pursuit of meaningful goals.
Rather than presenting success as a fixed formula, the book looks at the decisions, setbacks, turning points, and lessons that shaped each journey. It shows how individuals responded to adversity, recognised opportunities, developed their strengths, built teams, and continued moving forward when circumstances became difficult.
At its core, Set the Ball Rolling is about taking the first meaningful step. The stories demonstrate that dreams gain direction when they are supported by action, adaptability, self-belief, and the willingness to learn from experience.
This book is for entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners, professionals, students, emerging leaders, and readers interested in personal development and real-world success stories.
It is particularly relevant to anyone seeking practical inspiration from people who have faced uncertainty, overcome setbacks, built careers and enterprises, and turned ambition into purposeful action.
Excerpt
From “Pursuit of Success”
Pursuit of success is like running a marathon.
“You are your greatest asset. Put your time, effort and money into training, grooming, and encouraging your greatest asset.” These words from millionaire businessman, Tom Hopkins have been my guiding principle in my journey through life.
Hailing from a small village, from a middle class family, I have had to chart the course of my life right from the beginning. With no proper guidance and little financial aid, I have had to make my decisions and earn a living all along. The initial years of life I spent in Chickmagalur and Halebeedu in Karnataka.
As with most kids who gain the primary education in their mother tongue and then abruptly shift to English medium schools for primary or middle school education, I had all the apprehensions and anxieties that come with being suddenly thrown into a new ambience. My aunt who was my caregiver during kindergarten remembers that I was very bold and confident till such time as when I moved into an English school, after which, I grew increasingly shy and introverted and lost all confidence.
Without an idiom to express myself, a sense of inferiority perhaps crept in and was to remain for a long time gnawing at my self-esteem. This is also the story of thousands of kids in India who shift from a school where the medium of instruction is in the regional language to an English-medium school. Such kids mostly come from families, in which parents are uneducated, or at best are have some basic education in a local language.
In high school, things started taking a turn for the better. I was nominated the class leader and suddenly the confidence that I had lost, began to return. I realized that when given a responsibility or when under pressure, I could push myself to perform. That is when I felt that if I wanted to, I could change myself. Yet, till I completed my 10th grade, I couldn't figure out how I could change myself.
Perhaps, the desire to live independently was the first step towards the change I wanted to see in myself. My parents were simple, innocent folk. They were not worldly-wise to guide me in life or education. I am very thankful to them for funding my basic education despite financial constraint and supporting me in all the decisions I was to take thereafter. The immense trust they reposed in me, certainly played a big role albeit subconsciously, in my journey towards change.
