About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and talented Graphic Designer cum Book Formatter to join our publishing team in Bengaluru. This is a dual-skill role: you will design eye-catching book covers and marketing visuals, and you will also format and lay out full-length manuscripts for print and digital editions.
The ideal candidate is a super-excited, fun-loving, creative person with working knowledge and experience of creating eye-catching graphic designs, combined with a strong eye for detail and an in-depth understanding of book layout design. You will collaborate closely with authors, editors, and the publishing team to deliver high-quality, professionally designed and formatted books ready for distribution across multiple platforms.
What You'll Do
Creating print book covers and e-book covers is an important part of the role. Additionally, you will create content like posters, illustrations, and visual content for social networks, and you will format complete manuscripts for paperback, hardcover, and eBook editions. You must know how to use the relevant software to design and create marketing assets, and be able to translate words into attractive visuals.
Responsibilities
Design
- Create book covers and illustrations from scratch — print book covers and e-book covers.
- Coordinate with the team to produce content like posters, infographics, illustrations, advertisements, etc.
- Create social media content, image ads, and other marketing assets.
- Coordinate with clients, understand their requirements, and create graphics as per specifications.
- Be familiar with applications like Adobe Creative Suite and other online tools.
Formatting & Layout
- Format and lay out manuscripts for print (paperback/hardcover) and digital (eBook) editions.
- Ensure compliance with various publishing standards (e.g., IngramSpark, KDP, EPUB).
- Collaborate with authors and editors to maintain consistency in style, fonts, and formatting elements.
- Optimize content for readability and visual appeal across devices and platforms.
- Resolve formatting issues such as line breaks, orphan/widow lines, and page alignment.
- Convert and validate files in formats like PDF, EPUB, MOBI, etc.
- Stay updated on the latest trends in book design and formatting tools.
Requirements
Technical
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and other relevant design tools.
- Proficiency in book formatting tools — Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, and eBook formatting software.
- Proven experience formatting books for print and digital platforms (portfolio required).
- Strong knowledge of industry standards for print and digital publications.
- Understanding of typography, page composition, and design principles.
- Deep understanding of how social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter/X) work.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards for digital publications is a plus.
Professional
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Be prepared to work long hours if required.
- English communication skills are a must — should be excellent in English.
- Must bring their own LAPTOP to work (capable of graphic design and book formatting workloads).
Time Management
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Efficient workflow and strong organizational skills.
Terms of Employment
- This is a full-time, work-from-office position based in Bengaluru.
- Moonlighting, part-time working, or freelancing is strictly not allowed.
- Work from home (WFH) is not available for this role.
